EAST MEETS WEST

(Part 1)

The Bucks bounced back from Boston to beat the Kings on Sunday. Milwaukee had 56 3-point attempts and made just shy of 40% of them - a huge improvement over last game. Moreover, eight Bucks scored 10+ points, once again proving the team's depth and ability to score off the bench.

Here are the highlights:

Two days after beating the Kings, the Bucks lost to Portland 103 - 118. CJ McCollum torched Milwaukee’s backcourt on his way to dropping 40 points. Everyone had problems trying to stop him. But nobody had it worse than DiVincenzo…

And...

Yes. Here‘s an entire minute of the rookie on skates...

This is the second time the Bucks  had trouble containing a guard (Kemba Walker scored 41 points in the first game of the year). Despite the numbers, the defense did a great job sticking to the scheme by forcing midrange shots. McCollum just happened to be making his midrange jumpers. In fact, they accounted for nearly half of his points.

Coach Bud has been transparent when talking with the media about his defensive schemes. Following the game, he told reporters that he will not prepare for each opponent individually. Instead, he’ll stick to the same strategy throughout the year. Bud believes that his system will carry the Bucks deep into the playoffs if they’re given enough reps throughout the season. This is why we didn’t see any adjustments defensively against the Blazers. It tells us he is willing to lose games in order to learn from his failures and build off his foundation.

A loss to a good team like Portland early in the year is not a terrible thing. Let’s see how the Bucks respond in Oakland Thursday night on TNT.

Bucks in Six. Always.
