GRADING MILWAUKEE’S OFFSEASON MOVES

After a disappointing end to the 2022 season, the Bucks are doubling down on last year’s roster. Most importantly, Jon Horst resigned deals with Pat Caunnoghton and fan favorite, Bobby Portis. The front office also received 2022 commitments from Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Wesley Matthews, Serge Ibaka and Jevon Carter. The 2022 offseason has proved one thing, and one thing only: Milwaukee wants to run it back.

2022 Draft

The Bucks used their only 2022 draft pick to secure a winner in MarJon Beauchamp. Selected 24th overall, the 6’6” wing averaged 15.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 24 games with the G-League Ignite. But what’s most intriguing about Beauchamp is journey to the NBA. The Seattle-area native experienced homelessness in his childhood and attended four high schools along the West Coast. Then in 2020, he considered quitting basketball entirely before returning to play for a junior college in Washington. Can’t wait to see how his grit and work ethic play into his development this year. It could be very exciting.

Another Antetokounmpo

The Bucks are collecting the Antetokounmpo brothers like Infinity Stones. On July 26th, Bucks acquired Alex from the Raptors’ G-League affiliate. The cost? Rights to 22-year-old Jalen Lecque. While it’s unlikely Alex will play this year, the trade pleases Giannis by bringing his youngest brother to Milwaukee. Who knows, maybe someday we’ll see Giannis, Thanasis and Alex all playing together in the Fiserv.

Pat Caunnoghton Deal

Planet Pat decided to pick up his player extension for 1 year, $5.7 million. Then shortly after, the 29-year-old guard signed a three-year, $28.27M contract extension. This is a big win for the Bucks, because it helps Horst avoid the luxury tax. If you’re asking if Connaughton’s worth it, just remember he recorded a career-high 39.5% of his threes last season

Bobby Portis Deal

There was a question mark around Bobby Portis since the start of the off-season. Would the “Mayor of Milwaukee” resign with the Bucks? Or would he seek keys to a new city? Luckily for us, he signed a 4-year deal worth $49 million. It’s clear Portis is an integral part of the team and provides an energy that very few NBA players can replicate. Make your money big fella.
