THIS IS HOW IT ENDS.

Well... here we are in March with no basketball, only madness.

While the NBA has announced a break from their season, college hoops is fully cancelled. No brackets, no Cinderella story, no national champion. Instead, we’re all left with the burning question… What if?

What if Marquette got hot and won the Big East Tourney? It’s not that far-fetched, nor is dreaming of a Sweet 16 run. When you have the nation’s most prolific scorer in Markus Howard, anything is possible. Howard capped his career at Marquette as the Big East Conference leading scorer with 2761 career points (averaging 27.8 per game his senior year). Not only was Howard a walking bucket, but he exemplifies what it means to be a Golden Eagle – a true leader and stand up citizen. He and fellow senior Sacar Anim will be greatly missed by fans and faculty.

What if the University of Wisconsin made another deep March run? They’ve done it twice before. Not to mention the Badgers have won their last 8 games and were projected as a 4 seed, had the tournament taken place. There’s nothing scarier in March than a team who has been shooting lights out from deep to end the season.

What if the NCAA grants seniors another year of eligibility? Sounds crazy but I can assure you it’s not. Over the past few years, the NCAA has increasingly faced scrutiny for its eligibility rules, recruiting, and neglecting to pay college athletes. On top of all that, robbing  seniors of their dreams to play in the NCAA tournament is an equally bad look. Something’s gotta give.

The “what if” questions go on forever, but I digress. The point I’m making is that there’s a lot of uncertainty around how the year could’ve shaken out. The only thing we know for sure is this year has been the most memorable season of college basketball ever.

Hate to say it but, there’s always next year.
